My name is Yajaira Contreras  and I am with Achievement Matters. We are a private one-on-one tutoring company that provides tutoring to students in their homes and local libraries in Washington State. We are currently working with the No Child Left Behind Act to provide free tutoring to low-income families and are seeking some tutors to tutor in Elementary School English and Math in Lake Stevens.

Weekday planting with Sound Salmon Solutions!


Looking for regular, weekday chances to get outdoors and contribute to salmon recovery? Join Sound Salmon Solutions staff and other volunteers in planting native trees and shrubs at any of several restoration sites, including near Arlington, Granite Falls, and Marysville! Spend a day, or two, or more, directly contributing to improved stream and wetland wildlife habitat, while learning about native plant identification, natural, and local history.
Please bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Wear warm clothes and dress for the weather. Rainboots/sturdy shoes recommended.

ALL events run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers must register to receive directions and further details ~ soundsalmonsolutions.org.

2/25 Plant Potting Party!, Sound Salmon Solutions offices, Lake Stevens, WA

These bare-root native plants need a place to live! We’ll be transferring bare-root plants into their own pots, for use at future planting events. Come visit us at our new Lake Stevens location and help us pot these plants! You’ll have a beautiful view of Lake Stevens, and learn about native species, their preferred growing conditions, and some tips on native plant horticulture. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Wear warm clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and dress for the weather. We will be working outdoors.

3/17 Country Charm Park and Conservation Area Tree Planting, Arlington, WA

Pearl Jam wants to put trees back into the Stillaguamish watershed, and you can help! Meet at the Country Charm Park and Conservation area in Arlington, WA to help plant native trees and shrubs that will provide shade and nutrients for salmon. Country Charm is always a popular place to work and play! You will be able to view the site, see what progress we’ve made over the years, and then contribute your own plants to that progress! We will be joined by representatives from the City of Arlington, and other partners. Please bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Wear warm clothes and dress for the weather. Rainboots/sturdy shoes recommended.

3/31 Whitehorse Creek Riparian Planting, Arlington, WA

Join Sound Salmon Solutions, other volunteers and partners like the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to plant trees along a local coho stream—Whitehorse Creek! You’ll get to scout for wildlife, like the beavers who have a dam here, and help monitor native vegetation planted by SSS in 2009.
Please bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Wear warm clothes and dress for the weather. Rainboots/sturdy shoes recommended.

Mentoring Children of Promise 


Spend time with a young person in your community! Local Lake Stevens boys enrolled in our program need caring adult mentors. A mentor is 21 years or older and commits to spending 2 hours a week with a young person doing activities in your community.

Achievement Matters - Hiring Part-Time Tutors
Achievement Matters is a private one-on-one tutoring company serving families throughout Washington. As a tutor you will be making a difference in a student's life in a career that's fun, rewarding, and flexible! We provide private tutoring to both private and public school students. We also offer free tutoring for students who qualify for Supplemental Educational Services through the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act. We are seeking enthusiastic tutors who enjoy working with students in grades K-12 and can tutor in any of the following subjects including but not limited to: Reading/ Language Arts, Math, or Science.

We are currently looking for tutors who:

-must be at least 18 years of age
-have previous experience teaching or tutoring or extensive knowledge in a particular subject
-have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR a minimum of 60 post secondary units can apply, but must have previous tutoring experience
-must be punctual and dependable
-highly motivated
-self starter
-patient and caring
-are committed and passionate about teaching
-know how to motivate children who are struggling in school and make learning fun
-possess sensitivity to social, economic and cultural diversity

Requirements: Tutors must have a reliable means of transportation, internet access, and MUST able to pass an extensive federal criminal background check.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Tutoring assignments will take place within a few miles from where the tutor lives or goes to school.

The majority of tutoring positions take place Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 3:00pm and 9:00pm. Some tutoring sessions can also be arranged on weekends or early mornings.

Tutoring sessions will be arranged around the tutor's schedule

Tutors will be hired part-time, as an independent contractor and will work anywhere between 2-20 hours a week.

Tutoring will take place at the student's home, library, or school in a one-on-one environment

Tutors will work with the same student(s) on an ongoing basis

Please indicate in your cover letter if you have any of the following:

-expertise in a particular subject area i.e. biology, geometry, history, etc.
-have experience working with learning disabled children
-fluency in a foreign language (A PLUS)
-experience tutoring students who qualify for Supplemental Educational Services through the No Child Left Behind program is (A PLUS)

COMPENSATION:

$20.00/hour (one-on-one) for tutors with a Masters, PhD, and/or Teaching Credential (Emergency teaching credentials are not valid)
$18.00/hour (one-on-one) for tutors with advanced experience working with various special needs students
$16.00/hour (one-on-one) for tutors with a Bachelor's degree from a four year university
$15.00/hour (one-on-one) for tutors who have an Associate's degree or completed a minimum of 60 credits
